Introduction

I wanted to create a blog about the everyday life of the Hutterite people, because I felt that there was not enough positive literature about the people I'm happy to call my own.

A little bit about me is ... I grew up on a Hutterite colony near Winnipeg. I'm as the title of this blog says, a teenager. For a Hutterite, (who are very outspoken) I'm quite shy and timid. My passion for writing started in 9th grade when one of my teachers told me I should consider trying to publish some of my work, so here I am a good three years later jumping into the blogging world hoping some soul will find a tiny grain of interest in my very unusual life.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Hutterites, they are a group of Anabaptist Believers, living communally, that came to North America during the first World War after their Pacifistic belief's were threatened, and they were forced to make the choice, either leave or join the German army, they chose to leave by ship to the U.S. There they lived until World War 2 where the U.S once again forced them to make a hard choice, the Army or the door. They once again chose they door, heading for the Canadian prairies. Which is where now most of them have thrived and spread throughout, Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

So I ask you to join me as we journey deep into the Prairies of Manitoba, along the banks of a muddy river, up into a community of about 100 and some people, the place I call my home.

The name of this colony shall remain anonymous, and my name for the time being shall also remain hidden. But please join me as I tell the stories of growing up in a Colony and how my teenage years of being just one step away from the rest of the world, are unfolding.

The pages that follow wont be in order, they could be anywhere from the present to my childhood, I'll write them as they pop into my head or as they cross my mind.

So through my eyes, let me introduce you into the hidden, mysterious, sometimes judged life of the Hutterite people.
